ONE TWO THREE
पाठ का परिचय–‘वन टू थ्री ‘ काल्पनिक कहानी है। यह पाठकों को सीख देती है कि घमंड, गर्व, अतिविश्वास या क्रोध व्यक्ति को अवास्तविक बना देते है। कहानी में एक राजा है, जो सोचता है कि दुनिया में उसके जैसा शक्तिशाली कोई नहीं है, किन्तु अन्त में वह अपनी नासमझी महसूस करता है।
Once there was a rich and powerful king. He thought that no one in the world was as powerful as he was. But he told no one about it. One day he began to wonder whether other could guess what he was thinking. So he called all his officers and servants and asked them to tell him what thought was in his heart. Many of them made guesses. But no one could satisfy the king with his answer.
Then the king ordered his minister to find someone who could guess his thought. He gave the minister exactly a month’s time to find that person. The minister searched everywhere but he could not find anyone who could guess the thought in the king’s mind. As the month was coming to a close, the minister became quite desperate. But his daughter cheered him up by saying that she would find the right man for the job. “All right, let’s see what you can do,” said the minister.

वाक्यार्थ-किसी समय एक धनी तथा शक्तिशाली राजा था। वह सोचता था कि दुनिया में उसके जैसा शक्तिशाली कोई राजा नहीं है। किन्तु उसने यह बात किसी भी नही कही। एक दिन उसने सोचना शुरू किया कि क्या कोई उसके सोचने का अन्दाज लगा सकता है। इसलिए उसने अपने सभी दरबारियो/हाकिमो तथा नौकरों को बुलाया और उसके मन में क्या विचार था, सो बताने के लिए कहा। किन्तु कोई अपने उत्तर से राजा को प्रसन्न नही कर सका । तब उस राजा ने अपने मंत्री को कोई वैसा आदमी लाने को कहा जो उसके विचार का अन्दाज कर सके। उसने मंत्री को उस व्यक्ति को लाने के लिए ठीक एक महीना का समय दिया। उस मंत्री ने सब जगह खोज की किन्तु उसे वैसा कोई नही मिला. जो राजा के मन की बात का अन्दाज कर सके। चूंकि महीना अन्त कर रहा था, वह मंत्री बिलकुल निराश हो गया। किन्तु उसकी बेटी ने उसे यह कहकर उत्साहित किया कि उस काम के लिए सही व्यक्ति ला देगी। “ठीक है, देखे तम क्या कर सकती हो.” मन्त्री ने कहा ।
When the appointed day arrived, the minister’s daughter brought hom a fool. The man was a shepherd in their farm. The young woman asked he father to take the shepherd to the king. The minister was shocked at his daughter’s choice. But since he trusted his daughter, he took the shepherd to the king’s court The court had already assembled. The minister presented the shepherd to the king. When the shepherd lifted his eyes to look at the king, the king held up one finger. At this, the shepherd held two fingers. Then the king held up three fingers, but at this the fool shook his head violently and tried to run away. The minister could not understand what happened. He begged the king to explain things to him.

वाक्यार्थ–जब वह तय दिन आया, उस मंत्री की पुत्री एक मूर्ख को घर लाई। वह आदमी उनके खलिहान का एक गड़ेरिया था। उस युवती ने उस गड़ेरिये को राजा के पास ले जाने के लिए अपने पिता से कहा। वह मंत्री अपनी लड़की की पसन्द पर स्तब्ध हो गया। किन्तु चूँकि उसे अपनी लड़की पर भरोसा था, वह उस गड़ेरिया को राजा के दरबार ले गया।
दरबार पहले से लगा था। मंत्री ने उस गड़ेरिये को राजा के पास उपस्थित किया। जब उस राजा की ओर देखने के लिए आँख उठायी, राजा ने एक उँगली उठायी। इस पर, उस गड़ेरिये ने दो उँगलियाँ उठायी। तब उस राजा ने तीन उँगलियाँ उठायी, किन्तु इसपर उस मूर्ख ने जोर से सिर हिलाया और भाग जाना चाहा। क्या हआ उस मत्री ने कुछ नही समझा। उसने राजा से बात बताने के लिए निवेदन किया।
“When I held up one finger,” said the king. “I asked the man whether I alone was king. By holding up two fingers, he reminded me that there is also God, who is at least as powerful as I am. Then I asked him whether there was a third, and he strongly denied the existence of a third. This man really read my thoughts. I have been thinking that I alone was powerful, but he has reminded me that there is also God, but no third.”
वाक्यार्थ-“जब मैने एक उँगली उठायी,” राजा ने कहा, “मैने उस आदमी से पछा कि क्या मैं ही एक राजा हूँ। दो उँगलियाँ उठाते हए, उसने मुझे याद दिलाया कि ईश्वर भी है, जो कम-से-कम मेरे इतना शक्तिशाली है। तब मैने उससे पूछा कि क्या कोई तीसरा (भी) है, और उसने बलपूर्वक तीसरे के अस्तित्व को नकारा। इस व्यक्ति ने वस्तुत मेरा विचार पढ़ लिया। मैं सोच रहा था कि मैं ही शक्तिशाली हूँ, किन्तु उसने मुझे याद दिलाया कि ईश्वर भी है, किन्तु तीसरा नहीं। One Two Three class 8 in Hindi
